Sports drinks are a
multibillion-dollar industry, but these drinks offer little
more than extra calories, sugar and sodium to our diets. The
health
of our nation is getting worse each year and no wonder with the
drinks they are selling us these days under the name of "sport". If you are
looking for a vitamin sports drink
then let's review the options:
Gatorade Sports Drink
20 ounces has 130 calories (all from sugar by the way) and 250 milligrams of sodium. Gatorade
provides unnecessary calories, sugar and salt to the average person
with nearly no nutritional vitamins and minerals. The only vitamin
or mineral present is Potassium. Gatorade says the drink's
"ingredients serve to help rehydrate, replenish and refuel for
optimal performance." Is Gatorade a vitamin sports drink?
Absolutely NOT!
Powerade Sports Drink
32 ounces contains 280 calories (almost all from sugar), 220 milligrams of sodium and 76
grams of sugar. Like Gatorade, Powerade, made by Coca-Cola, is
a "sports drink" marketed to appeal to Olympic couch potatoes.
With only vitamins B, C, and E available and ZERO protein or fiber,
Powerade falls short on the nutrition chart. Is Powerade a vitamin
sports drink? Again, NO!
Vitamin Water
20 ounces of Vitamin Water has 125 calories from sugar. If we
had a problem with epidemic malnutrition in this country, a drink
such as Vitamin Water might make sense. But since we have, instead,
epidemic obesity and diabetes, how about we just leave water alone,
instead of using it as a delivery system for sugar no one needs?
Artificial sweeteners don't work, and may in fact increase the
incidence of obesity. What does work is an all
natural, low-calorie approach, like Kul Fuel. Would
Vitamin Water classify as a vitamin sports drink? Sorry Vitamin
Water with only vitamins B and C you are closer to water than
vitamins. Vitamin Water was recently linked to a Plano, TX students
illness.
See article.
Propel Fitness Water
20 ounces of Propel Fitness Water contains 25
calories from sugar, ZERO complex carbohydrates and ZERO Protein.
Here is what it does contain: According to the FDA and
Propel's own website - 25% of the daily recommended allowance of
vitamin B and 10% of vitamins C and E each. Aren't vitamins
necessary for proper fitness? If so, then Propel Fitness Water
would NOT be a vitamin sports drink.
Kul Fuel
Although relatively unknown when compared to the big marketing
budgets of the four mentioned above, Kul Fuel offers what the others
lack. A true vitamin sports drink. Let's take a look:
-
26 vitamins and minerals that our bodies need
especially when we are playing sports or being active.
-
21 of the included 26 vitamins have at least 33%
of the recommended daily value (according to the FDA)
-
Only ONE calorie from fat
-
< 1g of sugar
-
7g of Protein
-
82 calories from complex carbohydrates (the good
kind)
-
5g of fiber (the four previously mentioned sports
drinks contain ZERO fiber)
There are many so-called "vitamin sports
drinks" out there on the market today with little to no nutrient
value, they contain high fructose corn syrup, sucrose syrup and
fructose (labeled as sugar).
Muscle glycogen depletion has traditionally been the concern of
endurance and strength athletes both
pre and
post workout. Protein also is a big factor in
their diet. Glycogen levels following short intense training can be
reduced by as much as 40%, and if you double the intensity, you
double the depletion. There are almost no vitamin sport drinks on
the market today that offer a good source of protein. Now there
is...Kul Fuel.
