The Sugar Problem
In the last twenty years, sugar consumption in the U.S. has risen from 32 pounds to 161 pounds per person, per year.
Prior to the turn of the century, the average sugar consumption was only 5 pounds per person. Cardiovascular disease and cancer were virtually unknown.
More than 80% of our food contains high fructose corn syrup, sucrose, or fructose which is labeled as sugar. You can find them in packaged foods, sodas, fruit juice, beer, “health bars,” sports drinks, energy drinks, and many other products.
Most companies use it because it is inexpensive and very profitable. Most health bars and sports drinks have little to no protein or vitamins and minerals.
A high consumption of sugar can lead to heart disease, diabetes, obesity, high triglycerides, depression, osteoporosis, blood clots, hyperactivity, reduction in good cholesterol (HDLs) and elevation of harmful cholesterol (LDLs). It also deprives the body of minerals, vitamins, and fiber.
Sugar is the number one cause of obesity among children and adults.
The average teenager drinks over 800 sodas a year. The bodies of many children are “mush” due to a diet high in fructose corn syrup, which is high in fructose and low in copper-containing foods, resulting in inadequate formation of elastin and collagen – the sinews that hold the body together.

How is protein important?
Whey protein isolate is the most pure and concentrated form of protein available. Whey protein isolate is the richest source of naturally occurring branched chain amino acid (leucine, isoleucine and valine). It's made of essential and non - essential amino acids.
Their function in the body is to:
- Repair body cells
- Build and repair muscle and bone
- Provide a source of energy
- Control many of important processes in the body related to metabolism
These are important for active individuals as well as professional athletes.
In a study that was published in the Journal of Phisiology, athletes who were given a carbohydrate/protein drink over a 12 week training program had an increase in muscle weight by 6% and a decrease in abdominal fat by 24%. Research shows protein plays an important role in a sports drink. Kul Fuel delivers everything that the active body needs during training and the recovery afterward.
Research
There are many sports drinks out there on the market today with little to no nutrient value, they contain high fructose corn syrup, sucrose syrup and fructose (labeled as sugar).
Muscle glycogen depletion has traditionally been the concern of endurance and strength athletes. Protein also is a big factor in their diet. Glycogen levels following short intense training can be reduced by as much as 40%, and if you double the intensity, you double the depletion.
To show the importance of protein in a sports drink, here are some facts:
Researchers at James Madison University fed a group of athletes a carbohydrate sports drink and another group a carbohydrate - protein sports drink during intense training and measured post - training levels of creatine phosphokinase (CPK) in the blood (a measure of muscle damage). The group of athletes who received the carbohydrate/protein sports drink had a CPK level that was 83% lower than those receiving just the carbohydrate sports drink, indicating significantly less muscle damage during training.
This study clearly shows the importance of protein in a sports drink. Consuming a carbohydrate - protein sports drink within 45 minutes of training is the best way to replenish muscle glycogen stores.
The importance of rapidly replenishing muscle glycogen was clearly shown in a collaborative study that included researchers from North Texas State University School of Medicine and the University of Texas. In this study, an increase in stamina and a decline in muscle glycogen was 50% less when provided with the carbohydrate/protein drink than just flavored water.
Kul Fuel has formulated the right protein - carbohydrate ratio in our drink. This combination is adequate to meet the muscle energy needs during training and the recovery needs afterward.
Kul Fuel is the ultimate replenishment drink.
